Being emo can be hazardous to your health. Don’t take my word for it. Check out the research. Not only does being an emo kid make you a potential suicide victim, it makes you look wimpy, especially if you’re a guy. Nothing says “I won’t fight back” like donning a pair of black horn-rimmed glasses, a Fall Out Boy t-shirt and tight-as-tight-can-be jeans.
I was about to write a nice post defending emo music, while dismissing the emo aesthetic and “scene” as a fad gone horribly wrong, kind of like the grunge or indie periods in the 90s, or the punk-era in the 80s. However, I didn’t. It’s just the ebb and flow of the music industry. Good things come along and people ruin them by trying to make them lifestyles that they were never meant to be. As Christine, the Stella, in Detroit Rock City says: “Good tunes is good tunes.”
